Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Shame, self-pity, entitlement, dependence, emotional pain, abandonment, failure, fear of feeling. Anxiety and Depression. Possible or common buried beliefs

Healing note

Alcohol soothes the limbic system but suppresses core wounds. It's often used to silence the inner child or rebel. Spiritually, it reflects surrender to a false comforter.

Hard to go places

Letting the grief or shame beneath the drinking speak and facing the pain alcohol muted.

Sugar Addiction

Entry 02 · 43

Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Emptiness, deprivation, scarcity, self-soothing, exhaustion, dysregulation.

Possible buried beliefs

  • —“Sweetness isn't safe unless I control it.”
  • —“I need something to take the edge off.”
  • —“This is the only reliable comfort.”

Healing note

Sugar spikes dopamine in dysregulated nervous systems and quickly numbs low-grade pain. It is often symbolic of unmet sweetness — early attachment needs that were never fully met — and the body reaches for it whenever emotion becomes too much to hold.

Hard to go places

Feeling the low-grade emptiness or dysregulation without immediately reaching for a spike of sweetness.

  • —“Food is the only thing that won't leave me.”
  • —“I can't tolerate this feeling.”
  • —“I deserve at least this.”

Healing note

Emotional eating uses food to answer feelings food was never meant to fix. It is often reaching for love in edible form — soothing loneliness, muting anxiety, or filling a place inside where nurturing was missing.

Being with your own intensity and learning to ground without the fog.

Workaholism / Productivity Addiction

Entry 06 · 43

Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Inadequacy, fear of stillness, fear of worthlessness, fear of being seen, insecurity, shame.

Possible buried beliefs

  • —“I have to earn my right to exist.”
  • —“If I stop producing, I disappear.”
  • —“Rest is dangerous — someone will find out I'm not enough.”

Healing note

Workaholism is the nervous system using output as armour against an old belief that you are only valuable when useful. Underneath the drive is often a small self who learned that love came through achievement, and who fears what happens if the achieving stops.

Hard to go places

Resting without earning it, and letting yourself be loved for who you are rather than what you produce.

Control / Perfectionism

Entry 07 · 43

Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Possible buried beliefs

  • —“If I don't hold it all together, it falls apart.”
  • —“Mistakes prove I'm unworthy.”
  • —“It's not safe to let go.”

Healing note

Control and perfectionism grow in soil where things once felt unsafe or where love felt conditional. They promise safety through management and flawlessness — but the body pays in tension, exhaustion, and disconnection from spontaneity. Beneath both is usually a young self who learned that being 'good enough' was the only way to stay loved.

Hard to go places

Allowing life to unfold imperfectly, and grieving the parts of you that never felt safe enough to relax.

Entry 14 · 43

Open full entry →

  • —“If I don't push it, nothing matters.”
  • —“The rules don't apply to me.”

Healing note

Risk-seeking is often the nervous system trying to reach itself through intensity because ordinary aliveness has gone flat. Beneath it can live buried grief, suppressed anger, or a quiet death-wish disguised as thrill.

General Addictive Patterns

Entry 15 · 43

Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Emotional pain, shame, loneliness, fear, emptiness, unresolved grief.

Possible buried beliefs

  • —“I can't survive my feelings.”
  • —“Something outside of me must make me okay.”
  • —“Who I am isn't enough.”

Healing note

Many addictive behaviors function as attempts to regulate distress, avoid unresolved emotion, or compensate for unmet attachment needs. The object of addiction may differ, but the underlying need is often connection, safety, relief, or acceptance.

Hard to go places

Learning that the feelings you've spent years escaping can be experienced, processed, and survived without abandoning yourself.

Craving Control

Entry 16 · 43

Open full entry →

Likely buried feelings

Fear, helplessness, panic, childhood chaos

Possible buried beliefs

  • —“If I lose control, I will be harmed.”
  • —“Only I can protect myself.”

Healing note

Controlling behaviors often mask hyper-adrenal states rooted in trauma. In GNM, control conflicts may involve cortical processing. Karol Truman links excessive control to betrayal wounds, while Louise Hay roots it in fear. Spiritually, surrender becomes the doorway to peace: "Be still and know..." (Psalm 46:10)

Hard to go places

Feeling the terror of surrender and facing the quiet belief that letting go means being abandoned again.
