Buried Belief
- “The number proves my worth.”
- “If the scale goes up, I failed.”
- “If I am not losing weight, I am not okay.”
- “I need the number to tell me if I am acceptable.”
- “I cannot trust my body.”
- “If I control the number, I control my life.”
Hard-to-Go Place
Separating worth from weight and allowing the body to be more than a number. Scale obsession may provide proof, control, certainty, punishment, comparison, or a way to avoid deeper questions of worth, safety, identity, and self-acceptance.
Next Step
Ask, "What am I hoping the number will prove about me?"
