Avoidance

Novelty Avoidance / Depth Avoidance

Buried Feeling

Bored, trapped, empty, restless, unseen, dissatisfied, afraid of depth, afraid of commitment, emotionally dead, lonely, unfulfilled, ordinary, confined, craving excitement, afraid of missing out.

Buried Belief
  • If things are not new, exciting, or stimulating, I must be trapped.
  • If I feel bored, something is wrong.
  • Depth means loss of freedom.
  • Commitment kills passion.
  • Something new will make me feel alive.
  • If I stay, I will miss out.
  • Escape is freedom.
  • Novelty is proof that I am alive.
  • If it is familiar, it is no longer valuable.
Hard-to-Go Place

Staying present when novelty fades and the relationship, purpose, or responsibility asks for depth, maturity, repair, patience, and commitment.

Next Step

Before chasing something new, ask, "What feeling am I trying to escape by seeking novelty?"
